You are not required to find your own placement, but if you have a niche interest or something specific you want to achieve by undertaking a placement, it may be beneficial to look into finding your own opportunity. Some programs only offer one or two elective courses in their structure.
Students in the College of Business are encouraged to complement the coursework in their academic program by participating in an internship that provides practical work experience related to the student’s field of study. An internship is a project-oriented opportunity intended to supplement your formal education by exposing you to the real-world business work environment. It can allow you to explore specific careers, develop new skills, enhance current strengths, gain career related experience, and increase your marketability. Internship course credit is available in ACC, FIN, IS, MGT, MKT, and MSC.
UniSA’sCareer Hub offers some great online resources to support students with developing a CV and cover letter; look under self-help resources. Completion of the course provides useful work-based consulting experience that may help in the post-study transition to target roles. Students are required to operate as part of a small team, with industry mentoring and academic supervision, to solve a challenging contemporary work-based consulting problem in a partner organisation.
Find out the deadlines for university, internship, or job applications early on and plan your internship around them. You’ll want your business internship abroad to be considered as part of your application, and this may not happen if you aren’t yet registered for the internship. In some cases, an internship abroad will only count if it’s been completed.
